Ranna's Photography

​Throughout Ranna's art career, photography has regularly been her way of gathering and distilling images for use in her art studio. At times, the camera is Ranna's friend in making images for their own sake. One of Ranna's favorite subjects is Signal Knob mountain in the Virginia Blue Ridge (USA). Ranna has returned to the same vantage point over and over for 17 years from 2006 - the present, to photograph the mountain's many moods in thousands of images. The slide show below shows you just a few.

Signal Knob is the iconic mountain in each of these images. Part of the Blue Ridge of Virginia, during the Civil War it was a signal station used by confederate troops to notify their comrades, by mirror, of troop movements visible in the Shenandoah Valley below.
